Basically, we did two things this day. We spent around 4 hours on the highway and we spent 6-7 hours at Niagara falls. Here’s a picture of the great highway system in Toronto (which I took from the airplane!).
I’ll skip past the boring breakfast and long drive to Niagara. We arrived at Niagara around 12 pm and bought all of our tickets for the day. While the parents were in line for tickets I decided to explore the area a bit. I stumbled across the greatest store in the world, a store with only candy. I think I ended up buying 5 kg of candy….
Our first attraction of the day was a movie called “Niagara’s Fury: The Creation of the Falls.” The movie consisted of a beaver writing an essay while in detention but he falls asleep and gets transported back to the first ice age. Once he wakes up an Owl starts telling him facts about the Niagara falls and how it was created. It was really informative but there were too many Canadian stereotypes in it. For example, a bear comes into the story and his first line is “Aye?” I think I saw a few Americans laugh after that, grrr!
The second part of the movie was in a different room. It was a weather simulator and an Imax movie all in one. We were shown the creation of the Niagara falls and sprayed with a lot of water, but it was fun. They also gave us some ugly blue plastic bag thingies that vaguely resembled Jedi outfits. I decided to complete the outfit with my trusty iPhone app.
Our second event of the day was a walk through some tunnels underneath the falls. The tunnels weren’t eventful at all but there was a walkway that took us outside. Here we had a great view of the falls. I decided to record a short clip for the people that haven’t been able to experience the falls yet. ( As you can see, we got some ugly yellow jedi suits this time :( )
The next attraction was by far the best. The “Maid of the Mist” boat ride. Essentially, they stuff 500 people on a boat and drive them into the middle of the Canadian portion of the Niagara falls and get them soaked. This was easily one of the best things that I’ve ever been a part of. Words just don’t do it justice, so here are three pictures instead of the usual one!
As you can see ( or maybe you can’t) I’m soaked.
Our last event of the day was a walk along the river that drains out of Niagara falls (it’s name escapes me). These are Category 6 rapids, the more dangerous ones in the world. Unfortunately, our camera went on the fritz after the boat ride so iPhone pictures will have to suffice.
Well, that’s all from yesterday. Time to write about today! Ciao.
(Actually I wont get around to writing about today, I'll do it tomorrow while flying to Montreal.)
