Day One: The Beginning

What a day it has been, I don’t even know where to begin (Actually, I do know where to begin, it’s fairly obvious to me but I needed to add in something because the word count seemed too low for my liking…). So, we finally left Vancouver. We had the great luck of having a 6 am flight, which meant that we had to wake up at 3 am to leave for the airport. However, this wasn’t too big of a problem because I have much experience when it comes to flying early in the morning. For example, a Grande Vanilla Latte and two chocolate chip cookies is the perfect way to start one of these days.

As expected, Air Canada started boarding right on time. We found our seats quickly and sat down. Everything was fine and dandy until I decided to take a look out the window. What I saw was really concerning. From what I could tell, the back of the engines were being held together by red tape.

Aside from some moderate turbulence over Wisconsin the flight was alright and nothing really worth mentioning. Now we’re in Toronto and heading towards our hotel. My parents didn’t tell me the name of the hotel so I really had no idea where we were going to stay. I was surprised to see the taxi driver stop right at the entrance to the Rogers Centre (home field for the Toronto Blue Jays). It turns out that there is a hotel in the stadium and we arrived there right as the Toronto Argonauts were playing the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (Winnipeg won 13 - 12 if I recall correctly).

Afterwards we got acquainted with our room and chilled for a bit. After a while (3 hours?) we decided to go into the city and explore. Our targets were the Eaton’s Centre to do some shopping and find somewhere to eat. Of course, we did the whole tourist thing while searching for these two things. On a side note, there is a good mix of modern buildings and old buildings in Toronto. (Old building on right, modern buildings everywhere else).

Eventually we found the Eaton’s Centre but sadly it was already closed, I guess we’re just going to have to do our shopping another day… However, we had to keep chugging along. We still had to find somewhere to eat after-all.

The first place that caught our eye was called “The Loose Moose.” It looked great and had a great atmosphere from the looks of it. However, we weren’t allowed in because apparently it was a pub and I wasn’t 19. I just ruin everything, don’t I?!

We settled on an Italian restaurant that was surprisingly good. The pizza there was amazing, if I do say so myself!

After eating we wanted to go up to the top of the CN tower. Unfortunately, we spent too much time eating so we missed the last elevator up the tower. So, instead of having a picture from the top to post, this will have to do for now.

Well, that’s all for now. Who knows what cool things I’ll see tomorrow. As a wise person once said, “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery.” (If anyone knows what movie that’s from I’ll be surprised and greatly impressed.)

Good update. Keep 'em coming. Now I believe you about the stadium.

  2. That's not an engine, that's an auxiliary fuel tank (if that makes you feel any better) that's been repaired. Probably just left the tape on for visibility's sake. Oh, and the movie's "Kung Fu Panda".

Clearly, I'm better at trivia than tennis.
